Railway Weightlifting Championship Kicks Off in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, India – The 72nd Men and 11th Women’s All India Railway Weightlifting Championship 2025-26 commenced today, December 3, at the Waltair Railway Indoor Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Organized by the East Coast Railway Sports Association (ECoRSA), Waltair, the four-day event will see nearly 162 weightlifters from 15 zonal railway/production units across India compete for top honors.
Competitions will be held in various weight categories, including +110 kg, 110 kg, 94 kg, 88 kg, 79 kg, 71 kg, 65 kg and 60 kg for men and +86 kg, 77-86 kg, 69 kg, 58-63 kg, 48-53 kg for women, according to senior divisional commercial manager K. Pavan Kumar.
The championship was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager and President of ECoRSA, Lalit Bohra, in the presence of other railway officials and sports dignitaries, including Dronacharya Awardee Sunil Kumar and tournament director of Indian Weight Lifting team N. Usha. The event promises intense competition and showcases the strength and dedication of railway athletes from across the nation.
