Edwards Leads Timberwolves to Victory Over Spurs, Breaks Franchise Scoring Record
MINNEAPOLIS – Anthony Edwards exploded for 32 points, surpassing Karl-Anthony Towns to become the Minnesota Timberwolves’ all-time leader in games with 30 or more points, as the Timberwolves defeated the San Antonio Spurs 125-112 on Sunday night. Julius Randle chipped in with a stellar performance of 22 points, 12 assists, and 6 rebounds, contributing to a dominant fourth-quarter surge that propelled the Wolves to victory.
Minnesota outscored San Antonio 36-19 in the final frame, ignited by back-to-back three-pointers from Donte DiVincenzo (18 points) and Naz Reid (15 points) early in the period. The Timberwolves secured a 2-0 record at home following three consecutive losses on the road.
De’Aaron Fox paced the Spurs with 25 points, but the team struggled to maintain their lead as Victor Wembanyama remained sidelined with a left calf strain. Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson added 22 points each for San Antonio, who concluded their four-game road trip with a 2-2 record.
The Spurs held a 93-89 advantage heading into the fourth quarter and led 62-61 at halftime. However, Edwards’ late-game heroics and the Timberwolves’ improved defense proved too much for San Antonio to overcome.
Edwards, despite a shaky start with six turnovers, finished strong, shooting 13-for-18 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. His 32-point performance marked his 102nd career 30-point game, solidifying his place in Timberwolves history.
Looking Ahead:
The Spurs return home to host the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.
The Timberwolves travel to New Orleans to face the Pelicans on Tuesday.
