Kerala Congress Leader Sacked Over Alleged Conspiracy to Hand Bank to Rivals
Kozhikode, India – December 3, 2025 – N.K. Abdurahiman, chairman of the Congress-controlled Karassery Service Cooperative Bank in Mukkom, Kozhikode, has been ousted from his position by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The KPCC cited “anti-party activities,” alleging Abdurahiman conspired with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] to cede control of the bank.
KPCC President Sunny Joseph stated that Abdurahiman was found to have committed “gross mistakes.” The decision follows a proposal from the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC), accusing Abdurahiman of “cheating” the party after two decades of Congress leadership at the bank.
The Karassery bank, with its headquarters in Mukkom, was placed under an administrative committee by the Kerala government’s Department of Cooperation on December 1st. This move followed an audit revealing significant lapses in loan disbursement and complaints about the bank’s operations. The incumbent Congress-controlled committee, slated to serve until 2027, was also disbanded.
Local Congress leaders accuse Abdurahiman of facilitating a CPI(M) takeover. Allegations include a sudden surge of over 800 new shareholders, suspected to be CPI(M) supporters, added using unauthorized access to bank systems. Before November 29, the bank had 770 members, but within a day, the number went up to 1,599. A no-confidence motion was also planned.
The situation is reminiscent of the recent takeover of the Chevayur Service Cooperative Bank, raising concerns about further potential losses for the United Democratic Front.
