London, England – Samuel Chukwueze, Fulham’s winger on loan from AC Milan, expressed surprise and excitement after claiming his first English Premier League Man of the Match award in Fulham’s impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Chukwueze played a pivotal role in the Cottagers’ win, providing a crucial assist for Kenny Tete’s opening goal in the fourth minute. This marked his second consecutive assist in the league this season. He was also named the club’s Legend of the Match after providing a crucial assist against Sunderland last week.
The 26-year-old winger, who has primarily featured as a substitute in his previous five Premier League appearances, seized his opportunity after earning his first start under manager Marco Silva.
“I wasn’t expecting it today. But I was focusing on doing the hard work,” Chukwueze told Sky Sports after the game. He added, “The last months have been a bit difficult, but I kept my head down and kept working, and I took the opportunity today.”
Chukwueze credited the coaching staff for pushing him hard in training and keeping him motivated. He also highlighted the team’s collective effort, stating, “The players gave everything on the field. We had to defend with all our lives. This win is very, very important.”
With Fulham holding an option to buy Chukwueze for approximately €25 million, his recent performances are sure to impress Silva as he aims to secure a permanent move in the summer.
Fulham faces a tough challenge next, taking on Manchester City on Tuesday.
