COIMBATORE, INDIA – December 2, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Papers Limited (TNPL) has initiated a program to train farmers in the Coimbatore district on cultivating pulpwood trees for contract farming. The initiative aims to boost the livelihoods of marginalized farmers while ensuring a sustainable supply of raw materials for the paper industry.
Fifty farmers recently completed the first phase of training, which was coordinated by the Palamalai Farmer Producer Company and experts from TNPL and the Forest College and Research Institute (FC & RI). The training focused on the specific techniques for growing casuarina and ‘malai vembu’ (Melia Dubia) trees, which are well-suited to the agro-climatic conditions of Coimbatore. Participants also visited a pulpwood plantation in Tiruppur to gain practical experience.
According to TNPL, its Captive and Farm Plantation scheme benefits over 58,077 farmers across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, covering a total of 2,82,321 acres.
