Tue Dec 02 15:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Major Winter Storm to Slam East Coast, Millions Under Alert

A vast winter storm is barreling across the country, threatening to deliver the first major snowfall of the season to the East Coast and impacting millions from Kansas to New England. After blanketing parts of the Central U.S. with snow on Monday, the storm is now poised to unleash accumulating snow and icy conditions across New England. Winter storm warnings are in effect from Albany, New York, to Portland, Maine.

The National Weather Service warns of enhanced winter precipitation and gusty winds across much of New England and the Mid-Atlantic, particularly inland. Significant snow accumulations are expected, with the potential for over 6 inches north and west of the I-95 corridor.

Governors in affected states are taking proactive measures. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for several northwestern counties, citing the potential for heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain. He urged drivers to exercise caution as the Department of Transportation activates crews overnight. New York Governor Kathy Hochul similarly advised residents in upstate New York to prepare for the first major snowfall and assured them that state agencies are ready to assist.

The storm’s path is expected to bring 2 to 5 inches of snow across the Midwest on Monday night, followed by a 3 to 6-inch swath across the Ohio Valley overnight. By Tuesday morning, heavy snow is forecast to stretch from Pittsburgh to Cleveland into western and upstate New York. New England will experience heavy snow through Tuesday evening, with some areas potentially seeing 6 to 12 inches by early Wednesday morning.

While the northern regions brace for snow, a line of heavy rain is anticipated from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston through Tuesday afternoon. The storm system is expected to move off the coast late Tuesday night.

This new storm follows a previous system that disrupted holiday travel with significant snowfall in parts of the Midwest over the weekend. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the storm.
