Louisville Blanks Kentucky 41-0 in Dominant Rivalry Victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals delivered a resounding 41-0 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, overcoming a slew of injuries to key players with stellar performances from freshmen and a stifling defensive effort.

True freshman walk-on Braxton Jennings and redshirt freshman Shaun Boykins Jr., a converted wide receiver, led the Cardinals’ rushing attack with 113 and 101 yards, respectively. Quarterback Miller Moss, returning from injury, threw for 182 yards and four touchdowns, three through the air, to power the Louisville offense.

“Proud of the new guys for stepping in,” Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said.

The Cardinals defense held Kentucky to a season-low 147 yards and forced two turnovers. A blocked punt in the first quarter set up Louisville’s opening touchdown.

Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley struggled, completing just 14 of 27 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions. The Wildcats, who needed a win to secure a bowl berth, finished their season at 5-7.

“Not very proud of our effort today,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said after the game.

The loss marks the second consecutive year Kentucky will miss a bowl game, placing Stoops under increased scrutiny. Despite speculation about his future, Stoops affirmed, “Zero percent chance I walk away.”

The victory is Louisville’s largest in the series since it resumed in 1994 and their first shutout of Kentucky in 21 years. It also marks the first time since the 2012-13 season that Louisville has won both the football and men’s basketball games against Kentucky.

The Cardinals, now 8-4, will await their bowl destination, which will be announced on December 7th. Kentucky’s season is over.
