Tiruchi, India – December 2, 2025 – The Golden Rock Railway Workshop in Tiruchi is embarking on a new chapter as it undertakes the overhauling of Vande Bharat train coaches for the first time in its 90-year history. A 16-coach rake arrived at the workshop on Monday for a complete overhaul.

The coaches, previously operating on the Chennai-Mysuru route, will undergo SS-2 scheduled maintenance, which is done every three years. Around 250 technical personnel from the mechanical and electrical wings of the workshop will be involved in the meticulous inspection and repair of each coach.

The Railway Board, New Delhi, nominated the Golden Rock Railway Workshop to undertake major schedules of the Vande Bharat train sets. Prior to beginning the project, workshop personnel visited railway workshops in Mumbai, Ajmer, and Lucknow for specialized training on Vande Bharat coach maintenance.

The overhauling process will include a thorough examination of the bogies, seats, wheels, bearings, flooring, electrical equipment, and air conditioning units. New bogies will be installed as needed, and the coaches will receive a fresh coat of paint inside and out. The workshop aims to complete the overhauling process within 45 days.
