Tue Dec 02 04:10:00 UTC 2025: Hurricanes Demolish Stars in WBBL Blockbuster
Hobart, Australia – The Hobart Hurricanes cemented their place atop the WBBL ladder with a dominant 81-run victory (DLS method) over the Melbourne Stars at Bellerive Oval on Monday. An explosive innings of 71 from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, coupled with a devastating 5-16 spell from Molly Strano, propelled the Hurricanes to a resounding win.
Wyatt-Hodge’s knock, which featured a mix of aggressive hitting and patient accumulation, guided the Hurricanes to a formidable 4-176 in their rain-shortened 17 overs. Lizelle Lee contributed a quickfire 32 before rain halted her momentum, while Nat Sciver-Brunt added a valuable 31.
The Melbourne Stars’ chase faltered from the outset, with Nicola Carey striking early to remove Rhys McKenna. Linsey Smith then delivered a crucial blow, dismissing Stars captain Meg Lanning for just 9. The Stars’ innings crumbled under the pressure exerted by the Hurricanes’ bowling attack, with only Sasha Moloney (31) offering any significant resistance.
Molly Strano then ran through the Stars’ lower order, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul, including three in her first over. Wyatt-Hodge capped off a stellar performance by taking three catches, including a spectacular one-handed grab, earning her Player of the Match honors. With this victory, the Hobart Hurricanes have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in this year’s WBBL.
