Giants Fans, Let’s Get It Right: How to Pronounce Kicker Younghoe Koo’s Name

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – As Younghoe Koo prepares for his fourth game as the New York Giants’ kicker on Monday Night Football against the New England Patriots, a burning question remains for many fans: How do you pronounce his name?

The Sporting News has the answer. “Younghoe” is pronounced “YOUNG-hweh,” essentially combining “young” and “way” with a slight “h” sound before the second syllable. “Koo” is pronounced like the sound a bird makes.

Koo, a native of Seoul, South Korea, moved to the United States in the sixth grade and attended Ridgewood High School in New Jersey. His journey to the NFL included a standout career at Georgia Southern University, where he earned first-team all-conference honors in the Sun Belt. He then became known for his kicking with the Atlanta Falcons.

So, as you cheer on the Giants Monday night, you’ll know the official way to say their field goal kicker’s name.
