Mon Dec 01 22:20:00 UTC 2025: Giants Rookie QB Dart Returns with Emphasis on Avoiding “Welcome to the NFL” Hits

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is set to return to the field against the New England Patriots on Monday night after missing two games with a concussion. However, his return comes with a clear directive: protect himself. The coaching staff and teammates have urged Dart to alter his reckless playing style, which has led to multiple head injuries this season.

Dart’s hard-nosed style, characterized by a willingness to take on defenders and fight for extra yards, has drawn comparisons to Eli Manning’s infamous “Welcome to the NFL” moment in 2004, when he was leveled by an Eagles defender. While Dart’s competitiveness is admired, the Giants recognize the need for him to stay healthy, especially after being a first-round pick.

Interim coach Mike Kafka and the Giants staff are working to find a balance between preserving Dart’s aggressive style and teaching him to avoid unnecessary hits. This includes encouraging him to slide, go out of bounds, and recognize situations where fighting for extra yards isn’t worth the risk.

“I have to obviously be more responsible when I’m in the open field,” Dart said after being cleared from concussion protocol. The team hopes that with increased awareness and experience, Dart can develop the ability to avoid big hits, similar to how Manning learned to protect himself throughout his career. The Giants know keeping Dart healthy is crucial for the team’s success this season and in the future.
