Pitt County Animal Groups Call for Volunteers, Donations During Busy Season
GREENVILLE, NC – Local animal welfare organizations in Pitt County are urging residents to lend a helping hand as they navigate a season of heightened need. Pitt County Animal Services, the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, and Pitt Friends are all actively seeking volunteers, donations, and foster homes to support their vital work in caring for homeless and abandoned animals.
Pitt County Animal Services is seeking volunteers for multiple programs, including Mutt Strutters (dog walking) which meets Mondays-Saturdays at 9:00am and Sundays at 9:30am. The organization is also recruiting for their Doggie Day Out program, where approved volunteers can take a shelter dog on a “field trip” to provide them with socialization and a break from the shelter environment.
“Our volunteers are essential to providing the best possible care for the animals in our charge,” said Ashley Case, a spokesperson for Pitt County Animal Services. “Whether it’s taking a dog for a walk, providing a temporary home, or simply donating needed supplies, every contribution makes a difference.”
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina is appealing for volunteers for its annual gift-wrapping fundraiser (email hsecgiftwrapping@gmail.com) and are accepting donations for gift-wrapping supplies via Venmo (@humanesocietyofeasterncarolina with the note “gift wrap supplies.”). They are also in need of supplies such as paper towels, peanut butter, cat toys, soft dog treats, cat scratchers, cat pâté, laundry detergent, bleach and used blankets. The Humane Society is also scheduling “Rover Nights,” which allow community members to host dogs for a sleepover. Interested parties can reach out to hsecvolunteer@gmail.com at least 24 hours in advance.
Pitt Friends is specifically requesting donations of dog toys and treats for animals in foster homes. Donations can be made through December 19th at Pure Barre and Johnny’s Tire locations in Greenville.
All three organizations are also actively seeking foster homes. Pitt County Animal Services needs foster homes for cats and kittens (pittshelter@pittcountync.gov).
