Mon Dec 01 03:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Commanders Revamp Receiving Corps, Banking on Treylon Burks Potential
ASHBURN, VA – The Washington Commanders are betting on upside, releasing veteran receiver Robbie Chosen and clearing the way for former first-round pick Treylon Burks to potentially make a significant impact, starting with their Week 13 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Head Coach Dan Quinn expressed his enthusiasm for Burks, acquired earlier this season, stating the receiver has a high “hunger index.” Quinn’s remarks came on the same day the Commanders parted ways with Chosen, a veteran deep threat who previously spent time on and off the roster.
While Chosen offered a proven deep threat, the Commanders believe Burks, a 2022 first-round pick, brings a unique size and after-catch ability that the offense currently lacks. Even with the return of star receiver Terry McLaurin, the team is looking for a spark in the passing game.
The shift emphasizes the team’s desire to maximize yards after catch, a strategy particularly crucial with veteran backup Marcus Mariota under center while rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels recovers from injury. Burks’ 6-foot-2, 225-pound frame makes him a promising target to turn short passes into significant gains.
“He’s caught all four of the targets he’s gotten since joining the Commanders,”
Burks is now fully cleared for action after recovering from a finger injury that delayed his integration into offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s scheme. He previously had a good game against the Lions where he caught 3 passes for 58 yards.
The Commanders receiving corps is finally getting healthy, with McLaurin, All-Pro Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown all back practicing. This influx of talent will likely push Burks to prove himself.
While McLaurin provides a deep threat, Samuel serves as the ideal example for Burks, showcasing the potential to be a run-and-catch playmaker. The Commanders hope Burks can tap into his potential and provide another dynamic receiving option to help Daniels’ development when he returns from injury.
