Patna, Bihar – December 1, 2025 – The 18th Bihar Legislative Assembly commenced its winter session today with newly elected members taking their oaths of office. Pro tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav oversaw the proceedings, offering members the option to be sworn in Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, or Maithili.

While many MLAs opted for Hindi, some took their oaths in Maithili, Urdu, or Sanskrit, reflecting the diverse linguistic landscape of the state. A couple chose to be sworn in English. The pro tem Speaker also corrected members who attempted to swear in both the name of God and Truth, instructing them to pick one.
The session was adjourned after a number of members didn’t show up to be sworn in, the remaining members will take their oath tomorrow, following the speaker election. According to Vidhan Sabha Secretary Khyati Singh.
The five-day session will include the election of the Speaker on Tuesday, an address by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Wednesday, the tabling of the second supplementary budget, and a debate on the Governor’s address on Thursday. The session will conclude on Friday with a debate and passage of the appropriation bill.
