Sat Nov 29 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## NYCFC Coach Preaches “Bulletproof” Mentality Ahead of Eastern Conference Final Against Inter Miami

Miami, Florida – As Inter Miami rides a wave of dominant victories into the MLS Eastern Conference Final, New York City FC coach Pascal Jansen is preparing his squad with a “bulletproof” mentality, aiming to shut out the noise surrounding Lionel Messi and his star-studded teammates.

NYCFC faces a daunting task against Miami, who are fresh off back-to-back 4-0 playoff wins against Nashville SC and FC Cincinnati. Miami’s roster boasts not only Messi, but also former Barcelona legends Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, making them clear favorites for the conference title.

Despite previous losses to Miami this season, including a 4-0 defeat in September, Jansen believes his team has grown significantly. “Those lessons in those two games have been massive for us in order to evolve ourselves,” Jansen told ESPN. He emphasizes that focusing on their own responsibilities and staying true to their identity will be crucial for NYCFC to compete effectively.

“From day one, what I mentioned to my guys in the dressing room and my staff was to establish a bulletproof mindset,” Jansen explained. “So, it doesn’t matter where you play or who you play or when you play, you have to be able to focus on what needs to be done.”

Jansen acknowledges Messi’s impact but cautions his players against being overwhelmed. “Can you imagine when you’re on pitch playing against a legend like Messi… that you might be overwhelmed and forget about your job and your responsibilities?”

NYCFC secured their spot in the conference final after a strong playoff run, defeating Charlotte FC and the Philadelphia Union. Despite being labeled the underdog, Jansen is unconcerned. “They can call it whatever they like,” he said. “It’s all part of the bulletproof mindset approach. So I don’t care what anybody says or in what position they put us if it’s the underdog or the favorite.”

The Eastern Conference final is set to take place on Saturday night at Chase Stadium. The winner will advance to face either San Diego FC or the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS Cup final on December 6.
