Sun Nov 30 07:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India Eyes ODI Redemption After Test Series Debacle

Dharamsala – The Indian cricket team is looking to bounce back from a crushing Test series whitewash as they prepare to face South Africa in a three-match ODI series. Bowling coach Morne Morkel believes the shift to the white-ball format offers a fresh start and a chance to inject much-needed momentum into the squad.

“It was a disappointing two weeks for us, but we’ve had a couple of days to reflect,” Morkel said, emphasizing the importance of channeling energy into the ODI team. The return of experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is expected to bolster the team’s confidence and performance.

Despite the upcoming T20 World Cup being a major focus, Morkel stressed the significance of the ODI series. “Every time you put on the Indian jersey, you are representing the country and the fans,” he stated, underscoring the team’s commitment to playing good cricket for their supporters.

Morkel acknowledged the challenge posed by a confident South African team, warning that “a confident Proteas team is a dangerous team.” He emphasized the need for India to start strong and play consistent cricket throughout the series.

While questions linger about the long-term future of Kohli and Sharma in the 50-over format, Morkel expressed confidence in their ability to play the 2025 World Cup. “I have played many games against them… I know as a bowler what goes through your preparation playing against them. So, for me, definitely onboard with that.”

India will be without Shubman Gill (neck injury) and Shreyas Iyer (spleen injury), but Morkel confirmed both players are recovering well and expected to return soon. “Shreyas has also started his rehab, which is great. So, we are looking forward to welcoming them back into the squad,” he added.

The ODI series kicks off in Dharamsala, with India hoping to put their recent Test woes behind them and reignite their winning form in the limited-overs arena.
