Mon Nov 24 20:04:43 UTC 2025: RSF Declares Unilateral Three-Month Truce in Sudan Amidst Ongoing Conflict

Khartoum, Sudan – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), announced a unilateral three-month humanitarian truce in Sudan’s civil war on Monday. The announcement came hours after General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, leader of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), rejected a ceasefire proposal from the “Quad” – Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States – calling it biased.

Hemedti stated the truce was agreed upon in cooperation with the Quad, the African Union, and IGAD, aiming to protect civilians and facilitate aid delivery. He also called it the first step toward a political solution to the conflict that began in April 2023. The RSF has expressed its intention to create a field monitoring mechanism and committed to holding accountable those who have committed violations against civilians.

However, the SAF has yet to confirm the agreement. Al-Burhan previously rejected the Quad-backed proposal, claiming it would effectively dissolve the armed forces and maintain the RSF’s position. He has staunchly opposed the RSF’s inclusion in any future solution.

The fighting in Sudan has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, displaced millions, and triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, with both sides facing accusations of committing abuses. The RSF recently took control of el-Fasher, with reports and satellite imagery indicating they are attempting to conceal evidence of mass killings.

The situation remains uncertain, and it is unclear whether al-Burhan’s stance on the ceasefire has changed following Hemedti’s announcement. The future of the conflict hangs in the balance.
