Despite the profound trauma she endured, Fletcher dedicated her life to resilience, independent living and community empowerment.

Throughout her life, Fletcher worked in domestic service. In recent years she dedicated herself to teaching future generations through the Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation, she worked towards empowerment and self sufficiency. Fletcher was an advocate for education and civil rights, and she was a mentor to many.

Fletcher’s story is one of extraordinary courage and perseverance. She testified before Congress, sharing her experiences with audiences worldwide.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous individuals who found inspiration in her life and advocacy. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by the family.
