New Aadhaar App to Revolutionize Identity Verification with Paperless, Offline Capabilities
New Delhi, India – The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to launch a new Aadhaar app poised to transform how citizens verify their identity. The app’s key feature is its offline verification capability, allowing users to prove their identity directly from their phones without requiring an internet connection.
During a recent webinar, the UIDAI team revealed that the new app will make digital Aadhaar usage more seamless and efficient. The app, already available on app stores but awaiting its official launch, will offer a range of advanced features.
Unlike its predecessor, the mAadhaar app from 2017, the new app streamlines the registration process using the 12-digit Aadhaar number. Users can verify their identity through face authentication, similar to an eKYC process. The app displays a QR code and the user’s photo, enabling individuals to share their identity by scanning the code – a feature set to reduce the need for physical Aadhaar cards.
UIDAI CEO, Bhuvnesh Kumar, emphasized that offline verification provides a “secure, convenient, and privacy-friendly” alternative, minimizing the need to share photocopies of Aadhaar, which are often prone to fraud.
Key features of the upcoming app include:
- Simplified updates: Easier updates to basic information such as mobile numbers and addresses.
- Family management: Ability to manage multiple Aadhaar cards within a single app.
- Selective data sharing: Option to share only specific data with organizations, enhancing privacy.
- Enhanced security: A one-tap security system to fortify user protection.
- Fast, secure verification: Streamlined identity verification at hotels, residential societies, and events.
The UIDAI highlighted that the new app will significantly improve the user experience, offering faster updates, enhanced privacy, and rapid offline verification, marking a significant advancement in the Aadhaar ecosystem.
The official launch of the new Aadhaar app and its features is expected in the coming weeks. Millions of users stand to benefit from the streamlined process and enhanced privacy controls offered by the new platform.
