Guwahati, India – India’s batting lineup suffered a dramatic collapse on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, leaving them reeling at 121/7 and facing the prospect of a follow-on. After a promising start, the Indian batsmen struggled against the Proteas’ pace and spin attack, with Marco Jansen leading the charge with four wickets.
The day began with India at 51/0, but the South African bowlers quickly turned the tide. Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his half-century but was soon dismissed by Simon Harmer, triggering a flurry of wickets. Poor shot selection and extra bounce proved to be India’s undoing, as they lost wickets in quick succession.
Rishabh Pant’s dismissal immediately after the tea break further compounded India’s woes, while the experienced Ravindra Jadeja was left to try and salvage the innings with the tail. Jansen’s fiery spell saw him dismiss Nitish Kumar Reddy and Jadeja, exposing India’s lower order.
South Africa will be aiming to wrap up the Indian innings quickly and enforce the follow-on, putting themselves in a commanding position to win the Test and potentially the series.
