Syracuse QB Steve Angeli Sidelined Against Former Team Notre Dame Due to Achilles Injury
SOUTH BEND, IN – Syracuse Orange quarterback Steve Angeli will not be taking the field against his former team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, today due to a torn Achilles tendon. The injury, sustained earlier in the season during Syracuse’s win over Clemson, has sidelined Angeli for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Angeli, who transferred to Syracuse after making significant contributions to Notre Dame last season, was expected to be a key player for the Orange this year. Prior to his injury, Angeli had a promising start, completing 62.8% of his passes for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns with just two interceptions.
“It’s disappointing that Steve won’t be able to play against his former team and for the rest of the season,” said Syracuse head coach Fran Brown. “He was having a great season for us, and we were looking forward to seeing him continue to develop.”
Syracuse, currently 3-7, faces a significant challenge against Notre Dame without Angeli under center. The Orange are hoping for his full recovery in time for the start of next season. Angeli has indicated he intends to return to the team next year.
