Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry Remains Hospitalized After Stage Fall at Miss Universe Pageant
BANGKOK, THAILAND – Miss Jamaica, Gabrielle Henry, is expected to remain hospitalized in Thailand for at least another week after a fall during the preliminary evening gown competition at the 47th annual Miss Universe pageant on Wednesday. The 28-year-old ophthalmologist tripped and fell off the stage while wearing an orange gown during the show.
Henry is currently being monitored in the intensive care unit at Paolo Rangsit Hospital in Thailand, where she has been since the incident.
“Gabby isn’t doing as well as we would have hoped, but the hospital continues to treat her accordingly,” her sister told the Miss Universe Jamaica organization on Friday.
Footage of the incident circulating on social media shows Henry falling into the crowd. Audience members immediately rushed to her aid, and she was subsequently carried away on a stretcher. Initial reports indicated that she miraculously escaped with no life-threatening injuries or broken bones.
The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization is urging the public to keep Henry in their prayers. “During this profoundly difficult time, the Miss Universe Jamaica Organization is earnestly calling on Jamaicans at home and across the Diaspora to continue keeping Gabrielle in their prayers,” officials said. “We also encourage friends, supporters, and well-wishers worldwide to join in lifting her in love, strength, and hope. We respectfully ask the public and social media users to avoid sharing negative comments, misinformation, or speculation that may cause further distress to the family.”
Henry is the founder of the See Me Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping visually impaired people in Jamaica.
This year’s Miss Universe pageant has been marred by controversy. Judge Omar Harfouch resigned days before the competition, alleging that an “impromptu jury” with personal ties to contestants had already pre-selected winners. Additionally, Miss Universe executive Nawat Itsaragrisil was dismissed following a confrontation with Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, prompting a walkout by several contestants. Miss Mexico ultimately went on to win the event.
