Vinay Kumar Appointed as New President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee

New Delhi – November 23, 2025 – The Congress party has appointed Vinay Kumar as the new president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), effective immediately. The announcement, made on Saturday, November 22nd, ends a prolonged period without a functional local unit for the state Congress.

Kumar, a three-term MLA from the Renukaji Assembly constituency and former Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, replaces Pratibha Singh, whose previous committee was dissolved on November 6th of last year. He resigned from his position as Deputy Speaker, with Speaker Kuldeep Pathania accepting his resignation on Saturday.

“The Congress president has appointed Vinay Kumar as the president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect. The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC president, Pratibha Singh,” said AICC general secretary, organisation, K. C. Venugopal in an official statement.

Kumar, 47, comes from an agriculturist Koli family and has a long history of service within the Congress party, including a term as chief parliamentary secretary (2012-2017) and chairman of the Renuka Development Board (2013-2017). He has also served as working president of the HPCC. His father, Prem Singh, also held prominent positions within the party. The appointment is expected to revitalize the state Congress and provide fresh leadership.
