Delhi Protesters Demand Arrest of Teachers Following Student Suicide

New Delhi, November 23, 2025 – Over 100 people gathered at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, November 22, to protest the alleged harassment of a Class 10 student by teachers at St. Columba’s School in Ashok Place. The 16-year-old boy tragically died by suicide on November 19, leaving a note accusing four teachers of harassment.

The protesters, including family members, concerned parents, and community members, are demanding the immediate arrest of the four teachers, who have been suspended pending investigation. Police filed an FIR on November 20, charging the teachers with abetment to suicide and common intention.

“Mere suspension of the teachers is not enough,” stated the deceased student’s cousin during the protest. “There is a need for stricter punishment so that in future, teachers will be afraid of harassing students.”

The police have summoned the four teachers for questioning on Monday. According to reports, they have also questioned five of the boy’s classmates who were named as witnesses to the harassment in his note. Additionally, a week’s worth of CCTV footage from the school has been collected as part of the ongoing investigation.

The protest reflects a growing concern among parents about the treatment of students by teachers. One parent, Hemanth Kumar, said he plans to move his child to a new school after Class 10, citing experiences of teachers “taking out their anger on students.”
