Fri Nov 21 06:02:53 UTC 2025: ## News Article: US Sanctions Indian Entities Over Iranian Oil Trade
New York/Washington – November 21, 2025 – The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on several entities and individuals based in India for their involvement in the sale of Iranian petroleum and petroleum products. The US alleges that the funds generated from this trade support Tehran’s “malign activities,” including funding regional terrorist proxies and procuring weapons systems that pose a direct threat to the United States.
The US Departments of State and Treasury announced the sanctions on Thursday, targeting shipping networks, an airline, and its affiliates that are allegedly facilitating illicit oil sales and arming Iran-backed terrorist groups.
The sanctioned Indian nationals include Zair Husain Iqbal Husain Sayed, Zulfikar Hussain Rizvi Sayed, Maharashtra-based RN Ship Management Private Limited, and Pune-based TR6 Petro India LLP. These entities have been added to the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control Specially Designated Nationals List.
According to the US State Department, TR6 Petro, a petroleum products trader, imported over $8 million worth of Iranian-origin bitumen between October 2024 and June 2025. The company is accused of “knowingly engaging in a significant transaction” related to the purchase, sale, or transport of petroleum products from Iran.
“The Iranian regime continues to fuel conflict in the Middle East to fund its destabilising activities,” the State Department stated. “This behaviour enables Iran to fund its nuclear escalations, support terrorist groups, and disrupt the flow of trade and freedom of navigation in waterways that are crucial to global prosperity and economic growth.”
The US government affirmed its commitment to disrupting the illicit funding streams supporting Iran’s “malign activities” and vowed to hold the regime accountable for its actions. The sanctions are being implemented under counterterrorism provisions targeting Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical sector.
The US has previously sanctioned multiple entities in various countries for similar activities, demonstrating its ongoing efforts to enforce sanctions against Iran and limit its access to resources.
This action is likely to further strain relations between the US and Iran and could have implications for India’s energy security, which relies partly on Iranian oil imports. The Indian government has yet to officially respond to the sanctions.
