Cuban Denies Trade Rumors Surrounding Anthony Davis
Dallas, TX – Despite swirling rumors, Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban insists the team will not be trading forward Anthony Davis this season. This statement comes amidst a difficult start to the season for the Mavericks, who currently hold a 4-11 record.
Cuban, in an email to The Athletic, stated, “We won’t. We want to try to win,” directly contradicting earlier reports from ESPN citing multiple team sources claiming Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont would actively explore trading Davis.
The Mavericks’ disappointing performance, coupled with injuries and limited trade assets, has fueled speculation about Davis’ future in Dallas. This speculation intensified following the recent firing of former general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison, the architect of the trade that brought Davis to Dallas from the Los Angeles Lakers last year.
While Cuban, who now serves as an advisor to Dumont, has publicly stated his disapproval of the Davis trade, Dumont holds final decision-making power.
Davis, a 10-time All-Star, has played sparingly since arriving in Dallas, appearing in just nine games last season and only five this season due to injuries. He is currently sidelined with a left calf strain and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the coming days. When healthy, Davis has demonstrated his talent, averaging 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season.
Adding to the team’s challenges, point guard Kyrie Irving remains sidelined with a torn ACL.
While a healthy Davis and Irving could potentially turn the Mavericks’ season around, speculation about Davis’ long-term future with the organization is likely to persist, regardless of Cuban’s assurances.
