Fri Nov 21 04:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Sharks’ Celebrini Joins Gretzky, Crosby in Elite Company with Overtime Hat Trick
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Macklin Celebrini etched his name into hockey history Tuesday night, scoring a power-play goal in overtime to complete his second hat trick of the season and propel the San Jose Sharks to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Utah Mammoth.
Celebrini, 19, showcased his exceptional talent by scoring twice in the opening six minutes of the game. His game-winning goal came with 2:09 remaining in overtime, capitalizing on a too-many-men penalty against the Mammoth. The goal secured his 30th point of the season, making him only the third teenager ever, alongside legends Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby, to achieve that milestone within the first 20 games of a season.
“It’s an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as those guys,” Celebrini said after the game. “But the focus is always on getting the win for the team.”
While Celebrini’s heroics stole the show, the Mammoth battled back valiantly. JJ Peterka scored two third-period goals, including a tying goal with 2:51 left in regulation, slipping a shot past Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov. Askarov ultimately made 24 saves on the night.
The Sharks jumped out to an early lead thanks to Celebrini, who capitalized on a slick passing play with Will Smith and Philipp Kurashev just 1:47 into the game. He then extended the lead with a breakaway goal roughly four minutes later. Celebrini’s 30 points and 13 goals are the most by any Sharks player in the first 20 games of a season.
The Mammoth, despite forcing overtime, remain in a slump, having lost their last three games in the extra period and boasting only one win in their last seven contests. Vitek Vanacek made 19 saves for Utah.
Looking Ahead:
- The Utah Mammoth return home to host the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night.
- The San Jose Sharks will stay in San Jose to host the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
