Kochi Muziris Biennale 2025: Preparations in Full Swing for December Opening
Kochi, India – November 21, 2025 – With just three weeks until the grand opening, preparations are intensifying across 22 venues in and around Fort Kochi, Willingdon Island, and Ernakulam for the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2025, set to launch on December 12th and run until April 2026.
A dedicated team of “co-producers,” supported by volunteers from across India, is working tirelessly to transform dilapidated warehouses and godowns into vibrant art galleries. This year’s biennale will showcase the works of 66 artists from around the globe.
Amu Josephina Mohan, production manager and a former Biennale attendee, calls the work pace “on fire,” highlighting the involvement of local carpenters, electricians, Kudumbashree members and other skilled local groups in the venue preparation. The team is ensuring that the unique character of each space is preserved while creating an environment suitable for showcasing world-class art.
Venues like the KVJ Warehouse and Anand Warehouse in Mattancherry are undergoing careful conservation and restoration. The team is also addressing the challenges posed by Kerala’s climate, with art conservators implementing measures to control temperature and humidity, ensuring the preservation of the artworks.
The team is working in collaboration with the artists, with each artist being assisted by a volunteer.
