Asha Nehemiah’s “Prabir’s New Flute” Celebrates Resourcefulness and Bengali Culture
Visakhapatnam, India – November 21, 2025 – Celebrated children’s author Asha Nehemiah has released her latest book, “Prabir’s New Flute,” a heartwarming tale set in a West Bengal village. The story follows 14-year-old Prabir, a talented flautist whose music is central to his community’s celebrations. When his flute breaks, Prabir’s quest to create a new one leads to a series of engaging and humorous incidents that challenge his problem-solving skills.
Published by Duckbill Books, the book’s visual elements, crafted by illustrator Rajiv Eipe, aim to faithfully represent the mood and subtleties of Bengali village life. Nehemiah credits editor Sayoni Basu for her guidance in ensuring the book’s cultural accuracy.
Nehemiah, who recently presented at the Vizag Junior Lit Fest, emphasizes her desire to encourage young readers to approach challenges with curiosity rather than panic. “Today, young readers are surrounded by abundant distractions and humour often becomes the friendly path that brings them into the narrative,” she states.
Known for her stories that blend everyday observations with spirited characters and unexpected adventures, Nehemiah’s books have been translated into several Indian languages, extending their reach to families across the country. She is currently working on two new manuscripts, one for younger readers and another for middle graders, both exploring themes of curiosity, resilience, and understated humor.
