Channing Wilson Tops “The Road” Again, Briana Adams Eliminated After Risky Dolly Parton Cover
Oklahoma City, OK – The competition heated up on Sunday’s episode of “The Road” as the second group of Top 9 artists took the stage, vying for a spot in the next round. This week’s format saw each singer performing a cover song and an original tune while opening for country superstar Keith Urban. Audience members rated the performances live on their phones, influencing the judges’ ultimate decision.
Channing Wilson continued his winning streak, securing the top spot for the second consecutive week with his cover of “The Weatherman” and his original, “Gettin’ Out of My Mind.” Judges Keith Urban and Blake Shelton praised Wilson’s relatability and stage presence, suggesting this could be his breakthrough moment.
Other performances included Adam Sanders’ rendition of “Heads Carolina, Tails California” and his original power ballad “Burning Roses,” which impressed Urban and Shelton. Britnee Kellogg showcased her powerful vocals with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and a personal original song titled “She’s Come a Long Way.” Billie Jo Jones, battling an illness, delivered a powerhouse cover of Martina McBride’s “Broken Wing” and her original “Whose Tequila Are You Drinkin’?”
However, Briana Adams’ risky choice of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” for her cover proved to be her downfall. While Urban appreciated the performance, Shelton felt she “overshot it a little.” Although her original song, “Belle of the Beer Bash,” resonated with the crowd, it wasn’t enough to save her.
Ultimately, Adams and Jones landed in the bottom two. Shelton and Urban made the tough decision to send Adams home, citing Billie Jo’s stronger connection with the audience that night. Adams acknowledged the gamble she took with her cover song choice and thanked the show for the opportunity to be herself.
Channing Wilson, Adam Sanders, Billie Jo Jones, and Britnee Kellogg will advance to the next round in Tulsa, Oklahoma, joining previously selected contestants Cassidy Daniels, Jenny Tolman, and Cody Hibbard. The competition continues next Sunday.
