Thu Nov 20 00:20:00 UTC 2025: Sabres Aim for Third Straight Victory Against Struggling Flames; Thompson Stays Hot

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Sabres will look to extend their winning streak to three games tonight as they host the Calgary Flames at KeyBank Center. Fresh off a dominant 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, the Sabres are riding a wave of momentum, fueled by a resurgent offense and a stifling defense that held Connor McDavid scoreless.

The Flames, on the other hand, arrive in Buffalo reeling from a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks last night. Calgary currently sits at the bottom of the NHL standings with just 13 points and a dismal 2-9-1 road record.

Buffalo is set to roll with the same lines that secured victory against Edmonton, with Mattias Samuelsson and Jordan Greenway expected to play after a maintenance day. Colten Ellis will make his third consecutive start in net after a stellar 32-save performance.

One of the key factors in the Sabres’ recent success has been the play of Tage Thompson. He has five points in the last three games, including a goal in each contest, since returning to the center position. Coach Don Granato noted that Thompson’s improved control of the game at center has been a major boost.

The Flames might introduce a new face into their lineup as Elmira, NY native John Beecher, recently claimed off waivers from Boston, could make his debut. Beecher, a former first-round pick, will look to inject some much-needed offense into a struggling Calgary team.

Calgary’s offensive woes are particularly perplexing, as they rank last in the NHL in goals scored despite generating plenty of scoring chances at even strength. Their shooting percentage is the lowest in the league, and their power play is the least effective. Goaltender Devin Cooley is expected to start for the Flames, after Dustin Wolf started yesterday against the Blackhawks.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
