Tamil Nadu Minister Defends Investment Record Amid Conspiracy Claims

Chennai – November 20, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa vehemently defended the state’s investment record on Wednesday, alleging that persistent “conspiracy theories” were being fabricated to undermine the state’s industrial progress.

Speaking to the press, Minister Rajaa stated that certain politicians routinely cast “unsubstantiated aspersions” on Tamil Nadu’s economic growth, dismissing such claims as ignorant and politically motivated. He highlighted the significant strides made by the state in attracting investments over the past four years.

According to data released by the Minister, Tamil Nadu has signed 1,016 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) since 2021, representing a committed investment of ₹11.4 lakh crore and the potential creation of over 3.4 million jobs. He confirmed that land acquisition was underway for 809 of these projects, with many already in various stages of implementation, including commercial production and active construction.

Rajaa criticised those questioning the investment conversion rates, stating that such criticism showed a “childish” misunderstanding of the investment process, which takes place over a number of years. He added that such allegations are “driven by outright ignorance.”

The Minister further addressed criticisms regarding infrastructure development, pointing out the irony of those who claim to champion Tamil Nadu’s growth while simultaneously opposing land acquisition for industrial parks and critical infrastructure projects like airports. He also called out the hypocrisy of those spreading misinformation, like the alleged BYD plant in Telangana.

Rajaa highlighted official Union Government data identifying Tamil Nadu as the fastest-growing state in India with a growth rate of 11.19%, largely driven by the manufacturing sector. He also cited Employees’ Provident Fund data, noting a rise from 5.4 million registered workers in 2020-21 to nearly 8.4 million in 2025-26, representing the addition of 3 million jobs in the formal sector.

The Minister reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability in attracting and converting investment commitments, rejecting all allegations of discrepancies and defending the state’s progress.
