MUMBAI, November 20, 2025 (The Hindu) – The Bombay High Court has granted a divorce to Yogendra Lahu Bhoir, overturning a 2019 Family Court order, and citing repeated suicide threats and other actions by his wife, Prema, as amounting to mental cruelty. The judgement, delivered on November 14th and made available on November 19th, concluded that the marriage had irretrievably broken down after years of separation and legal battles.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A. Ankhad found that Prema’s actions created an environment where peaceful cohabitation was impossible. The court criticized the Family Court for overlooking these allegations, stating that the prolonged separation exacerbated the situation.
The court also reprimanded Mr. Bhoir for submitting a false affidavit denying a second marriage. An investigation revealed he was living with another woman and their child. The Bench labeled this action perjury and potential criminal contempt of court.
While granting the divorce, the High Court ordered Mr. Bhoir to provide a settlement to his former wife, including ₹25 lakh, two flats in Mumbra, and 80 grams of gold. The original marriage took place in May 2006 and the couple separated in September 2012. The legal proceedings were initiated in 2013.
