Thu Nov 20 11:20:52 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Eyes Finnish Education Model for “Andhra Model of Education”
VIJAYAWADA, India – November 20, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh is set to revolutionize its education system by integrating best practices from Finland, widely recognized for its global leadership in education. A high-level delegation from the state, comprised of officials from various education wings, recently concluded a study tour of Finland focused on pedagogical reforms, skill development, innovation ecosystems, and higher education models.
Led by Principal Secretary Human Resource Development Kona Sashidhar, the delegation engaged with the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) and visited numerous educational institutions, including primary schools, early learning centers, and universities.
The Andhra Pradesh government aims to replicate Finland’s emphasis on teacher professionalism, autonomy, and student welfare within its own “Andhra Model of Education.” “The Finnish model places strong emphasis on teacher professionalism and autonomy,” stated Mr. Sashidhar. He added that the visit to Finland highlighted the importance of emotional well-being integrated into learning and decentralised school governance.
The delegation plans to implement key aspects of the Finnish system, including prioritizing formative assessments over standardized testing, providing free schooling and meals for all students, and integrating play-based learning, starting with a pilot project of converting Anganwadi centers into Finland-style learning environments. EDUFI has reportedly pledged support for this pilot initiative.
Beyond primary and secondary education, the delegation explored higher education models, focusing on interdisciplinary learning, prototyping labs, and teacher training structures. Helsinki’s Oodi Central Library, known for its technology-enabled community spaces, will serve as a reference model for the upcoming Knowledge Hub in Amaravati.
Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) is exploring overseas employment opportunities for Indian skilled workers in Finland, focusing on fair wages and direct recruitment. APSSDC plans to develop specialized training modules to prepare workers for Finnish employment.
Officials express confidence that these initiatives will position Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in education, innovation, and skills development.
