KOZHIKODE, November 20, 2025 – The University of Calicut (CU) is facing administrative hurdles as at least 13 amendments to its statutes and ordinances remain pending with the Chancellor’s office. Some of these proposals have been awaiting approval for over a decade, with the oldest dating back to 2012.
The delays were revealed during a recent Senate meeting in response to a query from V.S. Nikhil, a pro-Left member. The pending amendments cover a range of critical issues, including pension and gratuity regulations for teachers and non-teaching staff in private colleges, changes to recruitment methods for non-teaching positions, and adjustments to the financial powers of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and department heads.
Notably, an amendment to pension regulations, cleared by the Senate on February 10, 2012, was submitted to the Chancellor’s office on May 9 of the same year and is still awaiting a decision.
Mr. Nikhil, also a former official of the Calicut University Employees’ Union, expressed concern over the protracted delays, stating that the university has repeatedly urged the Chancellor’s office to expedite the approval process. However, no explanation has been provided for the hold-up.
