Dongguan, China – Fashion industry leaders from 25 countries and regions convened in Dongguan, Guangdong province, on November 16th for the 2025 Global Fashion Conference. Under the theme “Fashion Transformation: Coexistence in Diversity,” the event served as a platform for exploring solutions to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by an era of global uncertainty.
The conference, organized by the China National Textile and Apparel Council, aimed to leverage China’s position as the world’s largest textile and apparel producer, consumer, and exporter to foster cooperation and promote industry prosperity.
Speakers at the event, including Juan Pares, president of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation, highlighted the current challenges facing the industry, such as weak demand, slow recovery, market volatility, and geopolitical tensions. He stressed the importance of strategic collaboration, sustainable development, green supply chains, technological innovation, and digital applications to overcome these obstacles.
Sun Ruizhe, president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, emphasized the significant role of the global apparel industry in employment, economic growth, and cultural exchange. He acknowledged the profound changes impacting the industry, driven by geopolitical conflicts, trade barriers, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the increasing importance of sustainability. He also noted the emergence of new opportunities in emerging markets and the growing demand for personalized fashion.
A key focus of the conference was the exploration of cultural diversity and design inclusivity. Design pioneers from China, Italy, the UK, and France, led by Chen Yu, participated in discussions that emphasized a return to the core value of design and the importance of brand uniqueness.
Fabio Del Bianco, men’s design director at TOD’S, highlighted the significance of observation and openness in multinational fashion design, advocating for the thoughtful integration of diverse elements while maintaining brand identity.
Other design experts, including Joshua Scacheri of Gieves & Hawkes and Christophe Blondin-Péchabrier, formerly of Karl Lagerfeld and Lanvin, stressed the need for balancing tradition and innovation, embracing diversity, and fostering cross-cultural collaboration rooted in mutual respect to achieve shared success within the evolving global fashion landscape. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to building diverse global partnerships and prioritizing human-centric innovation.
