Hope’s Century in Vain as New Zealand Clinch Series Despite Historic Feat
Napier, New Zealand – Shai Hope, the West Indies captain, played a magnificent innings in the second ODI against New Zealand, smashing a century off just 69 balls. Hope’s knock of 109, studded with 13 fours and four sixes, was his 19th ODI and 23rd international century.
However, his efforts were in vain as New Zealand chased down the revised target in the 34-over game. The home side secured the win with three balls to spare, clinching the series.
Despite the defeat, Hope achieved a unique milestone. He became the only batsman in the world to score a century against all 12 Test-playing nations, surpassing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli.
Hope also became only the seventh West Indian to surpass 6,000 ODI runs, achieving the feat as the second-fastest Caribbean player.
