Tamil Nadu Government Warns Employees Against Strike, Threatens Disciplinary Action
CHENNAI, November 17, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu government has issued a stern warning to state employees planning to participate in a one-day strike called for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, by various employee associations. Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam has directed all department heads and district collectors to instruct employees not to violate the Tamil Nadu Government Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1973, which prohibit strikes by government personnel.
The government considers participation in the strike a violation of conduct rules, threatening disciplinary action against those who abstain from work. Employees who participate in the strike will be subject to the “no work, no pay” principle, losing their pay and allowances for the day. Part-time employees, daily wage workers, and those on consolidated pay could face discharge from service.
Authorities have been instructed to reject casual leave requests, except for medical leave, on the day of the strike. The Chief Secretary has mandated that attendance reports be submitted to respective departments by 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, with collectors reporting attendance details to the Commissioner of Revenue Administration. The government’s firm stance aims to prevent disruption to government services and uphold employee conduct regulations.
