Broncos’ Dobbins Likely Out for Season Following Injury

Englewood, CO – The Denver Broncos have placed running back J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve, likely ending his season unless the team makes a Super Bowl run. Sources confirmed the move to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Dobbins sustained the injury in the third quarter of last week’s 10-7 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, where he suspected a hip-drop tackle caused the damage. He has already undergone surgery. The injury comes at a crucial time, as Dobbins, playing on a one-year contract, expressed a desire to bolster the Broncos’ offensive performance. He has been a key contributor, averaging 5.05 yards per carry and racking up 772 rushing yards.

“This is probably the best team I’ve been on, and we owe it to the fan base, we owe it to ourselves to stop playing how we’re playing,” Dobbins said after the Raiders victory.

With Dobbins sidelined, rookie RJ Harvey is expected to step into a larger role. Harvey has recorded 214 rushing yards on 50 carries and has also been effective as a receiver, with 25 receptions. Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie are also likely to see increased playing time.

“Definitely excited to showcase my running ability … [but] whatever Coach [Payton] wants me to do, I’m willing to do,” Harvey said.

The Broncos (8-2) are already facing a tough challenge as they prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday.

Dobbins joins linebacker Alex Singleton and cornerback Pat Surtain II on the sidelines. Singleton recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, and Surtain is out with a pectoral injury. Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is expected to return after recovering from a concussion.
