Congress Leader Links Red Fort Blast to Kashmir Unrest, Sparks Political Firestorm

New Delhi, India – A controversial link between the recent Red Fort car bombing and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been made by Congress leader Husain Dalwai, igniting a political debate. Dalwai suggested the blast, which killed 15 and injured over 20, could be a “repercussion for the injustice” in the region, echoing similar sentiments recently expressed by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.

Dalwai also questioned the timing of the blast, which occurred a day before the Bihar assembly election results, calling for an investigation into the correlation between elections and bomb attacks. “Why are there bomb attacks around elections? This should be probed,” he stated.

His remarks have drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Dalwai of engaging in “vote bank politics,” dismissing the allegations as “hopeless and bizarre.” Bhandari referenced past Congress statements, including claims that Pakistan was not involved in the Mumbai terror attacks, instead blaming the RSS.

The controversy comes in the wake of a statement by senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who spoke of “home-grown terrorists.” Chidambaram questioned the circumstances that lead Indian citizens to embrace terrorism, prompting discussion about the root causes of extremism.

Mehbooba Mufti had earlier criticized the government’s security measures in Kashmir following the blast, stating that the incident showed Kashmir’s problems are seen at Red Fort.

Adding another layer to the controversy, Dalwai called for an investigation into the role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), stating, “The way the RSS functions, I want to ask if the government will probe into the role of the RSS.”

Sangit Ragi, author of ‘RSS & Gandhi, The Idea Of India’, strongly refuted Dalwai’s accusations. He called the allegation “vile” and “ridiculous,” asserting that the RSS is involved in social welfare programs in Kashmir and has “nothing to do with any kind of divisive politics over there.”

The remarks have fueled heated debate and are likely to further exacerbate political tensions surrounding the Kashmir issue.
