Telangana Commission Issues Ultimatum on Caste Data Collection
Hyderabad, November 17, 2025 – The Telangana Backward Classes Commission has issued a strict 10-day deadline to 45 state government departments that have yet to submit caste-related data for their employees. This follows a review of the progress on caste-based data collection, deemed crucial for effective policymaking and resource allocation.
At a meeting today, chaired by Commission Chairman G. Niranjan, officials expressed concern over the delayed submissions. The Commission warned that Secretaries of the defaulting departments will be summoned if the data is not provided within the stipulated timeframe. Data collection is also being expedited for students in Telangana.
In addition to data collection, the Commission reviewed the procedures for issuing Denotified Tribes (DNT) certificates, which are essential for accessing benefits under the Central government’s SEED scheme. A detailed report on this matter will be submitted to the State government soon.
The Commission also announced plans to bolster its research capabilities, including upgrading its library with relevant materials and appointing a dedicated research associate to support ongoing and future research on Backward Classes communities.
