Norman, OK – University of Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell became an overnight sensation after his stellar performance against the Tennessee Volunteers, but it wasn’t just his powerful leg that made headlines. Sandell connected on all four of his field goal attempts, including three from over 50 yards, playing a pivotal role in the Sooners’ victory on Rocky Top.

However, it was Sandell’s unusually short football pants that ignited a social media firestorm. Broadcasters and fans alike couldn’t help but notice the abbreviated uniform, with former NFL punter Pat McAfee dubbing him the “short pants king.”

“Well, they ripped pregame,” Sandell explained to the OU Daily. “So, they kept falling down, so I kept pulling them higher to get them to stay.”

Despite the unexpected attention, Sandell’s performance speaks for itself. He currently leads the SEC with 18 successful field goals out of 19 attempts this season, tying the longest consecutive field goal streak in OU history. He also holds the OU single-season record for field goals over 40 yards.

Former OU head coach Bob Stoops and countless fans have voiced their support for the kicker, with some jokingly suggesting he deserves the “Thighsman” Trophy.

Sandell remains focused on the game despite the distractions. “My job is to hit them through the posts and be as mellow as possible,” he stated. “I’m here for the business, and I plan on doing my job to keep my business as sharp as possible.”

Looking ahead to a challenging schedule, including a highly anticipated matchup against Alabama, Sandell embraces the competition.

And for those wondering about the infamous short shorts? “I’m not changing it, so we’re gonna make it work,” he affirmed.
