Pittsburgh Braces for Wet Weekend: Saturday Designated “Impact Day” Due to Rain and Wind

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) – Pittsburghers can expect a mixed bag of weather this weekend, starting with a warming trend before a round of rain showers hits the region. Saturday has been declared an “Impact Day” due to the anticipated rain and gusty winds.

Temperatures will rise throughout the week, reaching the low 60s by Saturday. However, breezy conditions will make it feel cooler. The arrival of a rain system will bring showers to the Pittsburgh area, with the heaviest rain expected late Saturday afternoon and evening, continuing into the night. Residents are advised to be prepared with rain gear.

The showers may briefly impact the Pitt Panthers football game around 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., though the rain is expected to be light. Winds will also pick up, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph across the area and potentially higher in the Laurel Highlands.

Fortunately for Steelers fans, the rain is predicted to clear out before tailgating begins on Sunday. While the Steelers game will be dry, it will be breezy and cool. There’s a slight chance of flurries or sprinkles north of Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Looking ahead, Western Pennsylvania will dry out following the weekend showers, with temperatures returning to more seasonal norms in the mid-40s to around 50 degrees. Forecasters are also monitoring a few more rain chances throughout next week.
