First Glimpse of ‘Legend of Zelda’ Movie Surfaces as Filming Begins in New Zealand

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND – Excitement is building among fans as the first footage from the set of the highly anticipated “Legend of Zelda” movie has leaked online. Instagram users captured brief videos showcasing key actors in costume, confirming the commencement of principal photography.

The videos, shot on location in New Zealand, reveal Bo Bragason as Zelda receiving a weapon from an unknown character, along with a glimpse of a horse adorned with the iconic Triforce symbol. Another video offers a quick look at Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, clad in his signature green tunic.

Production officially began on November 4, 2025, in Wellington, and is slated to continue through April 7, 2026. The film, a collaboration between Nintendo, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures, is currently scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 7, 2027.

Directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and overseen by Nintendo’s legendary producer Shigeru Miyamoto, the film aims to bring the classic Zelda narrative to life.
