Shimla, November 15, 2025 – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today launched a statewide movement to combat the growing problem of heroin, known locally as “chitta,” vowing to make the state drug-free. The initiative kicked off with a “Chitta-Virodh” (oppose heroin) awareness walkathon in Shimla, attended by hundreds of schoolchildren, officials, and citizens.

“This is not just a government initiative, but a people’s movement,” declared Chief Minister Sukhu. “We are ready to root out chitta from Himachal Pradesh.”

The government is implementing a three-pronged approach: raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, cracking down on drug mafias, and providing rehabilitation for addicts.
