Hyderabad, India – Director SS Rajamouli, fresh off the global success of “RRR,” has officially announced his next magnum opus, titled “Varanasi,” at a grand “Globetrotter” event held in Hyderabad. The film, slated for a Summer 2027 release, boasts a star-studded cast including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The event, attended by over 50,000 fans, featured the unveiling of the film’s title and a teaser showcasing Mahesh Babu in a powerful avatar, riding a bull and wielding a trishul. Music composer MM Keeravani, who will be scoring the music for the film, humorously alluded to its scale and impact, promising it would reside in the hearts of Mahesh Babu’s fans.
Rajamouli emphasized the film’s international scope, noting that “Varanasi” has been created with talent from across the globe and has been filmed in IMAX format. Priyanka Chopra will play Mandakini, and Prithviraj Sukumaran will be Kumbha, while Mahesh Babu’s appearance remains a closely guarded secret.
Priyanka Chopra addressed the audiance by saying “This is the land where cinema is celebration” while Prithviraj praised Rajamouli’s vision and called the film an experience “the audacity of the imagination”
The “Globetrotter” event was a spectacle in itself, with fans receiving faux passports as entry passes and a massive 130 ft x 100 ft screen displaying the film’s teaser. Rajamouli had previously issued a clarification to discourage fans without passes from attending, citing safety concerns and police instructions.
With the release still several years away, “Varanasi” is already generating immense buzz, solidifying Rajamouli’s position as one of Indian cinema’s leading visionaries.
