“CSI: Miami” Star Eva LaRue Details 12-Year Stalking Nightmare in New Documentary
LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress Eva LaRue, best known for her role as Natalia Boa Vista on “CSI: Miami,” is opening up about a harrowing 12-year stalking ordeal in the new Paramount+ documentary, “My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story.” The documentary, which LaRue executive produced, details the terrifying harassment that began in 2007, two years after she joined the hit CBS show.
LaRue’s stalker, who had become obsessed with her during her time on “All My Children” in the 1990s, sent her dozens of threatening letters signed “Freddy Krueger,” detailing plans to torture, rape, and murder her. The threats soon extended to LaRue’s young daughter, Kaya Callahan, who was just five years old at the time. The stalker even tracked down Kaya’s school and impersonated her father, actor John Callahan, in an attempt to pick her up.
The constant fear forced LaRue and her daughter to move three times, and the stress took a significant toll on her health. “My eyelashes were falling out. I had a huge rash on my face and neck. My body was terrified,” LaRue revealed.
In a stroke of irony, LaRue, who played a DNA specialist on “CSI: Miami,” found that real-life technology lagged behind its TV counterpart. It wasn’t until 2018 that FBI agents Steve Kramer and Steve Busch, who cracked the Golden State Killer case, were assigned to her case. Using forensic genealogy, they were able to identify James David Rogers as her stalker, who was arrested in November 2019. He pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in April 2022 and was sentenced to 40 months in prison, a sentence LaRue found inadequate.
Despite the painful process, LaRue says making the documentary has been a healing experience for her and her daughter, who lost her father to sudden death in 2020. The actress is now developing a scripted drama based on the FBI agents’ groundbreaking work in forensic genealogy. “It’s taking back the narrative,” LaRue said. “It’s been such a healing journey. I never thought I’d be sitting here.”
“My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story” is available now on Paramount+.
