Bengaluru North Corporation Announces ₹238 Crore Road Repair Plan Amid Quality Concerns
Bengaluru, November 14, 2025 – The Bengaluru North Corporation has unveiled a ₹238 crore action plan to address the city’s pothole-ridden roads and improve overall infrastructure. Tenders have already been floated for 109 ward-level projects in areas reporting the highest number of potholes. Further tenders are expected by November 17th for arterial and sub-arterial roads.
Data reveals that Zone-1 of the North Corporation has reported 1,994 potholes between April and November, with Zone-2 recording 1,303. While a significant portion has been addressed, concerns remain regarding the quality of work.
Officials attribute the persistent issues to the continued engagement of contractors who have previously delivered substandard results. These are primarily local contractors who bid on smaller, ward-specific projects. Authorities are now requesting a revision of project costs upwards, hoping to attract larger, more competent national firms and ensure higher-quality construction.
“Since the contracts are small and ward-specific, most bids are submitted by local contractors rather than large national firms, which usually take on only high-value projects. As a result, the same areas often experience delays or poor-quality work,” an official stated.
The Corporation also faces a shortage of engineers, raising concerns about adequate supervision as the new round of roadwork commences. The project aims to strengthen damaged corridors, repair culverts, and restore smaller internal roads that connect residential areas, schools, shops, and local markets.
