Fri Nov 14 04:50:00 UTC 2025: India vs. South Africa, 1st Test: India Dominates Day 1 in Kolkata, South Africa All Out for 147

Kolkata, November 14, 2024 – India’s bowlers put on a dominant display on Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata, dismissing the Proteas for a paltry 147. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that quickly backfired as the Indian seamers found early movement and bounce.

Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with 3 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with 2 wickets each. Bumrah struck early, removing opener Riyaan Rickelton and the dangerous Aiden Markram, while Kuldeep Yadav accounted for captain Bavuma and Wiaan Mulder. Siraj’s double-wicket over further dented South Africa’s hopes, removing Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen in quick succession.

The South African innings never gained momentum, with only a few batsmen managing to reach double figures. Corbin Bosch and Tristan Stubbs are the current batsmen.

India included Axar Patel in their playing XI, while Sai Sudharsan missed out. Rishabh Pant made his return to the team as wicketkeeper, alongside Dhruv Jurel.

South Africa First Innings Scorecard: 147 all out (Riyaan Rickelton 11, Aiden Markram 39; Jasprit Bumrah 3/35, Mohammed Siraj 2/28, Kuldeep Yadav 2/34)
