Fri Nov 14 10:54:44 UTC 2025: India Takes Control on Day 1 of First Test Against South Africa

Kolkata, India – India ended Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa in a commanding position, reaching 36/1 after bowling out the Proteas for a paltry 159 at Eden Gardens.

Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded the Indian bowling attack, claiming a magnificent five-wicket haul, dismantling the South African batting lineup. While Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton initially provided a strong start for South Africa, Bumrah’s double-wicket over triggered a dramatic collapse.

Kuldeep Yadav also contributed significantly, picking up two crucial wickets, including that of South African captain Temba Bavuma. Mohammad Siraj and Axar Patel recovered from shaky starts to take two and one wickets, respectively.

India, however, lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal late in the day. At the close of play, KL Rahul and Washington Sundar are at the crease, looking to build on India’s promising start.
